SAGER: Ties of Tenggara is a group exhibition featuring the alumni of an art group exchange programme involving artists from several Asean countries. The programme was created to provide a platform for young artists to interact and build a regional art connection. Co-organised by HOM Art Trans and the National Visual Arts Gallery, this exhibition involves a number of young contemporary artists, namely, Azam Aris, Suddin Lappo, Ching Kim Chiew, Zelin Seah and Fadly Sabran from Malaysia; Choiruddin, Wisnuaji Putu, Iqro’ Ahmad, Andi Ramdani, Nugroho Heri Cahyono and Didik Wahyu Setiawan from Indonesia; and Tristram Miravalles, Guenivere Decena, Mervin Pimentel, Carlo ‘Caloy’ Gernale, Christopher Zamora, Zean Cabangis, Amer Mira and Iggy Rodriguez from the Philippines.

During the period of this exhibition also these artists will participate in several side programmes, including Art Talk at local art institutions such as UiTM, Malaysian Institute of Art, Dasein Academy of Art, and One Academy; while some of them will take part in “Memories of Chow Kit”, a community-based project held in the vicinity of Chow Kit, and a collaborative project “Sama-sama”, co-organised by Tenggara artists and Kapallorek in Bandar Seri Iskandar, Perak.

BIOGRAPHY

Fadly Sabran (b.1983 Perak) is a Media Artist, Researcher and Lecturer at Department of Fine Art, Faculty of Art & Design, Universiti Technology MARA Perak, Malaysia. Graduated Master in Visual Art and Design, University Sains Malaysia, Penang .Bachelor (hons) Degree & Diploma in Fine Art from Universiti Teknologi MARA, Shah Alam & Seri Iskandar. He is a founder and Director at Kapallorek Art Space (2014-now) and members of group SOsound Experimental Performance Art (2007-2012). Working with media art for a decade and has participated in numerous group exhibitions and Sound Performance both locally and internationally. His work incorporate media art & technology including painting, video, sound, light, kinetic, interactive and installation. Kuala Lumpur Experimental Film, Video and Music Festival (KLEX2017) 24 - 26 Nov 2017 Raw Art Space KL KLEX OPEN PROGRAMMES feature experimental shorts selected from the international open call in early 2017. The theme of KLEX 2017 is “Crossing Over”. Kapallorek Art Space is an artist’s initiative found in 2014 based in Seri Iskandar, Perak, Malaysia. It is an independent space with non-profit organisation as a platform for emerging and experimental artists to exhibit, performs and sharing their creative process making to the local communities.
